A Summer Weekend at Burot Beach

A Perfect Sunset at Burot Beach

How to Get There

1. Take a van bound to Calatagan. This van terminal can be found at the back of Kabayan Hotel in Pasay, near the MRT Taft Avenue Station.
2. Alight at Calatagan Market. It is advisable that you buy your basic necessities here. As of this writing, there is already a sari-sari store in Burot Beach that sells everything you may need but the prices are a bit higher than usual.
3. Take a tricycle from Calatagan Market to Burot beach. Regular fare is Php 150 - Php 200. It is best that you get the phone number of the tricycle driver so that he may fetch you when you already want to head back. I would recommend contacting Kuya Jun (0946-205-2027). He is friendly and doesn't overprice.

NOTE:
1. Even though multiple google searches would say that there is a bus bound to Calatagan in Metropolis Mall Alabang, there isn't any.
2. DLTB buses bound to Nasugbu in LRT Gil Puyat station doesn't pass by Calatagan. They will drop you at Lian instead, and you have to ride another jeep bound to Calatagan.

Things to Do
  • Swim. The water in Burot beach is so still and calm. The water doesn't move, it doesn't even have a high tide and low tide. It is like having your own swimming pool minus the chlorine. Even though it could get crowded during weekends, the water is still evidently clean as compared to the water of Bagasbas beach in Daet, Camarines Norte.
  • Beach Bumming. There are no accommodations here except for tents that you could rent for Php 400. It is better to bring your own tent or hammock and enjoy one of the best sunset that you will ever witness.
  • Camping. Pitch a tent or two, set up a hammock, gather your friends, grill some hotdogs and fresh-caught fish, make some tumblr worthy smores, sing songs of freedom, test your survival skills due to the lack of a clean toilet.
  •  Bonfire by the Beach. Bring your ukulele and booze, and jam with your friends round the bonfire. Note that it is forbidden to get dried woods from the forest for your own bonfire. The caretakers, however, sells Php 100 - 200 firewood that you could use for your bonfire.

What To Expect

You might have come across Burot beach via your favorite travel blog or a travel show saying that this is a secluded beach a few hours away from Metro Manila. It is probably because of this increased publicity that this place now has an influx of tourist on weekends.

Because of the increased number visitors, do not expect a meditative night under the stars.
Expect a Taylor Swift song to be played in a tent nearby.
Expect unclean toilets and long lines in shower areas.
Expect drunk men wandering around the beach and peeing near your tent.
If you are not into large crowds, likes to have the beach to your own, and prefers slighty cleaner toilets, don't go here on weekends.

Sans the weekend crowd, Burot Beach is still a place worth visiting. This getaway has the calmest water out of all the beaches I've been to and it showed me a great view of the sunset that I haven't seen in a while.
